Party like its 1347!
Testing the reed pipes in a simulation of the organ in Steinkirchen. Technically in the key of D dorian (so only white keys on the piano, but starting and ending on a D instead of a C).

In 1347 there was this common knowledge: "Always yield to temptation, for it may not pass your way again." :D

The ending uses a cadence that was very often used in music of those times. In general, medieval music is much wilder than you suspect. IF this stuff interests you, please look up "Ars Subtilior" and be amazed (e.g. Solage's choir piece "Fumeux fume par fumée" is quite famous and will sound rather experimental even to many of today's ears). And Carlo Gesualdo (a few hundred years after Solage) was not only a serial killer, but he also wrote music using harmonies that only reappeared in the late 19th century. I've had my mind blown more than once when encountering some of those things. Very fascinating stuff. So much has been (almost) lost in the cracks of time and later rediscovered independently...

I think I would like to sing some rustic old-style Shane McGowan sort of ditty over this and use it -- or most of it, anyway -- as an intro to something else.
