Our bodies met in moonlight
Twenty evenings in a week,
We threw our loins
From room to room,
The sweet sweat of night
Entwined between the sheets,
And our breasts:
Full moons
Waxing and waning over-
The sides of the bed
Couldn't contain us:
Desire, so thirsty,
So we let her drink...
She drank all night
For months on end...

And now,
Those nights
Depressed into days,
These dank rooms
Bare without
Their twilight hue,
So tired,
Full of stale
Walls and bills,
The bed,
Unmade-
The coffee spills…


So,
Where do we go,
When our wills,
So weak,
The months,
So slow,
And to nights fever,
We often say no,
When moonlight
Fades to morning,
And desire turns to dread,
When lust frays
At the seams
Like these sheets
That lay dead,
Where do we go,
What can be said?
