The Grocery Store

Schneller geht mein Atem, als ich die Strasse erreiche.
Nur raus dem Park, ich will gar nicht wissen was da passierte.

Mein Puls beruhigt sich als ich die Strasse zum Laden runtergehe,
nichts zu sehen weit und breit, etwas Nebel zieht auf.

Entspannt betrete ich den Laden, grüße Mike, den Besitzer.
Schnappe mir einen Korb und beginne durch die Gänge zu schlendern.

Nicht viele Leute hier, einige habe ich schon mal gesehen.


Plötzlich fliegt die Tür auf, Pistolenkugeln landen in der Decke.
Ein Kerl schreit : Los alles auf den Boden, und hält die Knarre Richtung Mike.
Die junge Frau, die vorne am Gang stand schmeißt sich auf den Boden, bedeckt ihren Kopf mit den Händen, die andere die an der Kasse stand, braucht eine zweite Aufforderung, vielleicht ihr erster Überfall.
Ich ducke mich hinters Regalende, versuche nicht gesehen zu werden.
Der Kerl schreit unterdessen, los her mit der Kohle. Die Kasse fliegt auf ich höre das klimpern von Münzen. Und während der Kerl immer noch brüllt, reißt er die Tür auf und Verschwindet, keine Minute später.

Plötzlich wieder Stille, die Frau vorne im Gang schluchzt erleichtert, schlottern die Knie, trotzdem versuche ich ihr aufzuhelfen. Mike flucht und wählt den Notruf.

Während die Polizei eintrifft, versuche ich immer noch meine Angst in den Griff zu bekommen.
Wir werden befragt und Mike gibt dem Polizisten das Überwachungsvideo.
Wird nicht helfen, der Trug eine Maske.

Ich darf gehen, es ist Dunkel geworden, der kalte Nebel tropft mir aus dem Haar

und ich stelle den Mantelkragen hoch, während ich mich auf dem Weg nach Hause mache, 11/2 Blocks.












English

My breath goes faster than I reach the road.
Just out the park, I don't even want to know what
happened there.
My pulse calms as I walk down the street to the
grocery store, nothing to see far and wide, some
fog is rising.
I enter the shop relaxed, greet Mike, the owner.
Grab me a basket and start strolling through the corridors.
Not a lot of people here, I've seen some before.


Suddenly the door blows open, bullets land in the ceiling.
One guy is yelling: "Get it all on the floor and hold the gun
towards Mike.
The young woman standing in front of the corridor
throws herself on the floor, covers her head with her hands, the
other standing at the cash register needs a second request,
perhaps her first robbery. I'm ducking behind the end of the shelf,
trying not to be seen.
Meanwhile, the guy's screaming, let's have the cash.
The till flies on I hear the jingling of coins. And while
the guy's still yelling, he rips the door open and disappears,
not a minute later.

Suddenly silence again, the woman in the front of the hall
sobs with relief, my knees are shaking, yet I try to help her up.
Mike curses and dials 911.

As the police arrive, I'm still trying to control my fear.
We get questioned, Mike gives the surveillance video to the cop.
Won't help the deception of a mask.
I can go, it's dark now outside, the cold mist dripping out of my hair
and I put up my coat collar as I make my way home, 11/2 blocks.
