Yes, Iwas thining Robert Fripp :)King Crimson is surely a band that takes a lot of getting used to (and not all of their albums are equally recommendable),but Robert Fripps early sound experiments were a milestone in guitar sound development for sure. I saw some old footage of him on some 50s or 60s BBC show, presenting his "Frippertronics", a prototype machine with reversed tape reels which he used to create soundscapes. Definetly worth checking out, that guy:)
